It all began when I was in 3rd grade. My father took me to the local hobby shop and bought me a model airplane kit. In those days most kits were composed of balsa wood and tissue paper. Plastic was only beginning to make an impact on the hobby. With his help I began to develop some basic skills, and finally, one day he said it was time for me to “fly.” (The Rope News No.118, January 2023)

It all started when building a museum at Angostura Ltd. and the curator wanted a model of the ship Dr Seigert, which had played an important role in the company’s history. No one was available on the island to build the model and he took the responsibility to build it himself. He ended up constructing the model from a bashed kit of the Cutty Sark. By the time this model was completed, he had caught the ship modeling bug.
